Relapse is common and stressful aspect among substance abusers. In the present study there has been an attempt to study relapse precipitants, life events and coping behaviors among opioids, alcohol and multiple substance dependent men. A descriptive survey was conducted after enrolling 45 substance dependent men. Clients were interviewed by using socio-demographic profile and clinical sheet, relapse precipitate inventory (RPI), presumptive stressful life scale (PSLES), and coping behaviour inventory (CBI). Study results reveals that onset of substance abuse was earlier in alcohol dependents in contrast to long duration of substance abuse and hospitalization in opioids dependents. The relapse phenomena was significantly associated with age, marital status, occupation, number of previous relapse, frequency of detoxification, duration of follow up, substance abuse and hospitalization. Factors influencing relapse appeared to be largely similar with more use of coping strategies in multiple substance dependents, especially behavioral one. Future researchers are encouraged to replicate this study and explore more dynamic nature of relapse phenomena.

Ageing is a natural process and it brings a number of changes in the physical, psychological, hormonal and the social conditions. As the age increases and person reaches to older period get involved with different challenging phases of life. The present study aimed to assess the level of ego integrity among geriatric population(100) in selected area of Tirupati, interviewed by using Modified Ego Integrity Scale.The results shown Ego integrity as 28% was low, 46% had moderate and 26% had high level and there was significant association between age gender occupation and family income at 0.01 level and religion and education at 0.05 level with their level of ego integrity. Conclusion: Keeping in mind the low ego integrity levels instructional material was distributed in order to improve the level of ego integrity.

Tobacco exposure is the single greatest preventable cause of morbidity, disability and mortality for chronic and debilitating diseases. In public health education, an important aspect is treatment of tobacco use dependence. This experimental study is intended to deter use of smokeless tobacco for users who seeks treatment and who doesn’t seek treatment as well. The study was conducted using a pre test post test design on smokeless tobacco users (taking dental treatment= 40, not taking-dental treatment= 40) in a tertiary care setting. The Educational video was received by subjects in two groups, dental group and non-dental group. Educational video is a video film of 14 minutes was developed by researcher that included contents related to chemical properties of tobacco, its harmful health effects, the diseases caused by tobacco use and the facilities available for treatment. Subject data sheet and attitude questionnaire where used as tool for the study. The mean age of subjects in dental group was 39 years and in non-dental group was 34 years. Most of the subjects in dental group and non-dental group were using gutka. Attitude scores of subjects significantly increase from pre-test (55.32±7.0 ) to post-test (62.74 ±4.2). There was statistically significant difference between attitude scores of subjects in dental group (60.3±13.23) and non-dental group(62.6±4.19) at one month follow up (p=<0.05). The Educational video film regarding ill effects of tobacco use and its treatment was effective in enhancing positive attitude. Hence video film regarding ill effects of tobacco use and its treatment is found equally useful for both potential and current smokeless tobacco users, those having dental/oral cavity complications as well as those who are not yet seeking for dental/oral cavity treatment.

Traumatic brain injury is a catastrophic and life altering experience which creates major problems to the victims, family and society.This study was conducted to assess the level of burden on care givers of critically ill traumatic brain injury patients hospitalized in critical care units at NIMHANS. Descriptive research design was used for the study. A total of 100 subjects were selected using simple random sampling method. Socio-demographic data schedule and Zarit burden interview was used to collect the information for a period of 3 months.Results showed that the burden mean score and standard deviation was70.26± 5.764. Socio demographic variables showed no influence on burden in the study subjects.The study concluded overall findings of this study showed increased burden scores in care givers of traumatic brain injury patient which suggest that nurses need to conduct motivation and interventional programmes to improve the care giver’s coping and reduce their burden level.

Family caregivers who provide care to the individuals with chronic disabling mental disorder are themselves at risk of developing physical and psychiatric symptoms due to constant demands on their energy and time. The physical strains of caring of someone who may not perform activities of daily living can have detrimental effects on psychological health of family caregiver. A cross sectional study was conducted on sample of 60 patients with chronic non-affective psychosis, currently in remission and their 60 family caregivers from the selected setting were included WHO Disability Assessment Schedule, for patients, Hamilton Anxiety Scale,Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology Self Report 16 and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale for family caregivers were used to accomplish the aim of the study. The study revealed patients had highest level of functional disability in the domain of participation and lowest level was in the domain of mobility. Family caregivers were anxious and depressed. Self-esteem of family caregivers was found to be low in some of the caregivers. Functional disability of patients had statistically significant positive correlation with levels of anxiety of family caregivers and their levels of depression whereas significant negative correlation was found with levels of self-esteem of family caregivers. The study concludes that measures to deal with functional disability of persons with chronic non-affective psychosis is to be taken and the caregivers also need to be assessed for their mental health needs.

Tobacco is the world’s major preventable killer. The world is in a state of tobacco epidemic, with larger population of tobacco users. According to WHO, tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. It is currently responsible for the death of one in ten adults worldwide. It has been predictable that the death tolls will reach, to 10 million by 2020, out of which 70 per cent will occur in the developing countries. The health professionals take part in considerable roles in tobacco control, their attitude and practice toward tobacco use can influence the health of the society. The present study aimed to assess Prevalence and exposure to environmental tobacco use, among the Health professions’ students. A cross sectional survey conducted among nursing and pharmacy students. The study used questionnaire from Global Health professions’Students Survey (GHPSS) which was developed by the World Health Organization, US Center for Disease Control and the Canadian Public Health Association (2008).Descriptive research design was adapted for the present study. One Hundred and forty one subjects (Nursing (n=62) and Pharmacy (n=79) college students) were selected through purposive sampling method. The self administered questionnaire was distributed and data were collected for socio demographic characteristics and Prevalence of tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco use. The collected data were systematically coded, computed and analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Analyses of the data were done by authors in accordance with the specified objectives. Tobacco smoking prevalence among health professions’ students are relatively low; however, majority believed that health-care providers serve as role models for their patients and the public.

The lack of substantial knowledge concerning mental disorders is conductive to emerging of stereotypes and discrimination against the mentally ill. A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Role-play on attitude towards mental illness among adolescents studying in a selected high school at, Bettahalasoor, Bangalore, Karnataka, India” with the AimTo find the effectiveness of Role-play on attitude towards mental illness among adolescents.A Socio Demographic tool and attitude scale was used to assess the attitude. Pre-test was conducted followed with 45 min of Role-playwhich was conducted by the IV year BSc Nursing students regarding the attitude towards mental illness. The post test was conducted after 7 days. The results revealed that mean attitude prior to the role-play (66.93+8.765) and after the role-play (73.33+7.545) was statistically significant. (t=3.132, p=0.004). Male adolescents (70.69+10.012) are having higher attitude than female (63.94+6.823) counterparts (t=2.197, p=0.036). Thus the study reveals that role-play is an effective method to change the quality of attitude towards mental illness among adolescents.

Social network services are web-based and provide means for users to communicate over the internet. Social networking sites allow users to show ideas, activities, events and interests within their individual networks. A study was conducted with the aim to assess the effect of social networking sites on loneliness of adolescents. The study was conducted in Narayana Junior College, Shamshabad, Hyderabad, Telangana. The sample size was 60 were in the age group from 15-17 years, purposive sampling technique was used to recruit samples for the study. A structured questionnaire comprising of 30 questions was used to collect the data from the subjects. The result of the study revealed that 96.6% of adolescents had moderate loneliness, 3.4 of adolescent had severe loneliness and none of the samples reported to have mild loneliness which is indicative that adolescents suffer from loneliness which often goes undetected. The study concluded that with the knowledge of influences of social networking site on mental health, the nurses through awareness and education at the primordial and primary level of prevention can help to arrest loneliness at the earliest.

Knowledge on the effect of music therapy in person with mental illness is very important. The aim of the review is to discuss the articles pertaining to music therapy on aggression among person with mental illness. The review was based on studies conducted globally. Systematic search was conducted on a range of databases, citations were sought from relevant reviews and several websites were also included in the search, including those of MIND and Mental Health Foundation. MEDline, EMBASE and Psyc INFO were searched for studies published from 2000 January to 2015. Quantitative method and Descriptive approach were used for this reviewing 14 articles. Majority of the studies (11 out of 14, 78.57%) showed positive effects of music therapy on aggression, were as remaining 3 studies (21.42 %) not shown any effect on aggression. The present review also reveals that Group Active Music Therapy model (75%) was more effective than Group Receptive Music Therapy Model (66.66%). Group music therapy model enhances the group interactions and communications. Music intervention being one form of non-pharmacological approaches has several advantages in that it addresses the psychosocial as well as environmental aspects for managing behavioural problems. Music intervention, therefore, may have provided an avenue for appropriate expression of negative emotions.
