In Kashmir perpetual turmoil has taken a heavy toll on the people living over here, by destabilizing their physical, social, mental and spiritual health. The impact of this unrest has affected lives of all, irrespective of gender, age, occupation and religion. This paper is written with an objective of, giving description of present mental health scenario and associated behaviour of people of Kashmir especially children.

Psychiatric disorders are the most common cause of disability. People with disability/disorders are often denied their rightful opportunities in work, relationships, housing, health care and other areas in which a full life is achieved. This adversely affects their quality of life. The rehabilitation of people with mental illness impacts their ability to lead independent lives outside the hospital. Studying the relationship between quality of life and resilience is needed for improving therapy and services. This study aimed to assess the relationship between the resilience and quality of life of people with mental illness attending psychiatric rehabilitation centre. A descriptive and correlation study carried out on day boarder’s patients attending psychiatric Rehabilitation Service unit, NIMHANS, India. Thirty patients with mental illness attending as day boarder in PRS unit for rehabilitation services were enrolled. They were evaluated using modified dispositional resilience scale and Quality of Life Instrument-BREF. The study result showed that patients had highest QOL scores in environment domain and overall mean QOL score was 64.25 ± 14.25 and the mean resilience score (54.8 ± 8.79) showed high resilience. There was a statistical significant positive correlation between all domain of QOL and level of resilience. There was improvement in psychological health as well as a positive correlation between the QOL and resilience in mentally ill.

Background of the study: Traumatic Brain Injury is a health problem occurring equally globally. About 40% of traumatic brain injury victims suffer from various psychiatric disorders and adverse cognitive and emotional effects which may affect the outcome of treatment from complete recovery to permanent disability. Aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of aggression and its correlates among patients post traumatic brain injury seeking treatment from Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was done on patients post taking follow up treatment. Ethical clearance was obtained from Ethics Committee, AIIMS. Results: Most of the patients post-TBI were male. The prevalence of aggression among patients post TBI was found to be 55%. Occurrence of aggression was associated with use of tobacco (p=0.04) by patients, and was not found to be associated with duration of injury. Conclusion: The post-TBI patients are at a high risk of developing aggression and use of tobacco can put the patients at a higher risk of developing aggression post TBI. Thus nurses need to emphasize on management of aggressive behavior and also train patients in social skills, when patients visit follow up clinic for rehabilitation.

Teachers and employers alike are seeking a solution to this fundamental problem of the limits of classroom education. Simulation education may hold the answer. Nursing education has long utilized simulation in some form to teach principles and skills of nursing care. Simulation activities involve controlled representations of actual clinical events. This strategy allows the learner to experience “real world” patient situations without risk. Learners are required to assess and interpret the situation, and make decisions based on information provided.

Mental health and behavioral disorders such as depression, cognitive disorders, personality disorders, and co-occurring conditions such as substance-related disorders are often overlooked in HIV/AIDS. These disorders can have a profound effect on adherence, clinic attendance, and quality of life, which can influence the progression of HIV/AIDS. Given the potential impact of mental health problems on the overall care and support of PLHIV, it is important for a mental health nurse to be aware of the different mental health needs at varying points in the continuum of care, and to design interventions and support services to address those needs. A mental health issue that may impact initiation and management of HIV in the continuum of care is discussed in this article.

With the increasing importance of internet and online usage by all different sectors of the society which is seen increasing dramatically, pathological use of internet in other words internet addiction is becoming more common in society. There is an urgent need to recognize and respond to the reality of internet addiction and the threat of its rapid expansion. The aim of the study was to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the Self Instruction Module(SIM) on level of knowledge regarding internet addiction among adolescents a pre test post test pre experimental design was adopted and study was done at Army Public School Secundarabad among 70 students between the age group of 15-18years. The study findings revealed that the overall mean percentage in pre-test is 33% and in post-test is 61% in their knowledge scores as measured by improvement in mean percentage from pre test to post test (p <0.05).

HIV infection is a global pandemic that continues to escalate in a number of countries worldwide. United Nations and World health organization reported that the global figure of people living with PLHIV ranges between 30.6 and 36.1 million in the year 2007. The present study was conducted to assess the level of experiences and coping strategies among primary care givers of PLHIV. A descriptive research design was adopted to assess the level of experiences and coping strategies among primary caregivers of PLHIV. About 60 primary caregivers of PLHIV were selected from District Hospital Chitradurga. The convenient sampling method was used to select the subjects. The result revealed that most of the primary care givers of PLHIV had no unusual experiences (76.67%) and good coping strategies (70 %) while caring for the PLHIV.

Tattooing and body piercing have been empirically associated with several deviant behaviors and criminality. Body modification had eventually been associated with antisocial personalities, addictive behavior, substance abuse; rebellion, aggression, sadomasochism and other deviant personality traits. A study was conducted with the aim to find the association of tattooing and multiple body piercing with aggression among college going young women. The research design was exploratory survey design. The tool for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The study was conducted from St Francis Degree College for women, Hyderabad, on 60 women. Results revealed that there was moderate aggression (94.33%), followed by mild aggression(6.66%) reported among young women. There was association between religion and aggression. The study can be useful to identify aggressiveness in women and tendencies for tattooing and body- piercing and develop plan for modifications of risk behaviors.

Schizophrenia is among the most severe psychiatric disorders. Yoga as an adjuvant therapy has shown improvement in self awareness, stress reduction, creation of energy and also as a best complementary treatment for schizophrenia. Assessment of self perception of health indicates beneficial impact in improving positive and negative symptoms and enhancing health-related quality of life of patient with schizophrenia. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of yoga on self perception of health in patients with schizophrenia. Patients with schizophrenia were randomly allotted to either Yoga with conventional care (Y) (n=25) or conventional care (Cc) (n=25) groups. Those in the yoga group were taught a specific yoga module with asanas and pranayama. Pre and post assessment done with visual analogous scale (VAS) and patient health questionnaire (PHQ). Result shown that improved self perception of health in both groups but statistically improved in yoga group (Y) group than the conventional care (CC) VAS score have statistically significant improvement (p<0.001) and PHQ score shows statistically significant improvement in yoga with conventional care groups.

This experimental study attempted to develop an Interventional Protocol for Managing Suicidality to reduce the perception of burden in the caregivers of patients with depression. An Interventional Protocol for Reducing Perception of Burden of Caregivers (IPMS) was developed and the programme was conducted for 30 family caregivers of depressed patients having risk for suicide. Results: half of the caregivers reported ‘Very Severe Burden’ before exposure to IPMS whereas there were no caregivers in this category after exposure to IPMS, meaning thereby that IPMS was definitely effective in bringing down the perception of burden among caregivers. There was significant difference in pre and post intervention perception of burden in caregivers of depressed patients having risk for suicide (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There will be decrease in number of admissions as the caregivers would be able to manage the patients having suicidal tendencies at home after undergoing training such as IPMS.

Internship year represents the first independent practice nurse graduates with the real work environment with all its challenges. The transition from student nurse to qualified staff nurse is often filled with overwhelming stress. Many nurse interns reported being distressed and emotionally overwhelmed in dealing with new or traumatic experiences when rotating various critical clinical settings. The experienced stress is likely to be exacerbated by lack of emotional regulation and adopting immature defenses that cause many forms of defensive behaviors. This study aimed to identify the relationship between emotional regulation strategies and self –reported ego defense styles among nursing interns at Alexandria Main University Hospital. Subjects of this study included 100 nursing interns in the internship year 2014 -2015. Data was collected by using Defense Style Questionnaire 40’' (DSQ-40) and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). The finding showed that, mature defense style is positively correlated to cognitive reappraisal of emotional regulation, whereas, immature defense style was positively correlated to emotional suppression. A significant difference was noted between gender and emotional regulation strategies, female interns tend to use more cognitive reappraisal, whereas, male tend to use more emotional suppression.

The study was aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding substance use and its effects among adolescent boys at Z.P.H Schools at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. A descriptive survey design was adopted and 60 adolescent boys were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data was collected by using self administered questionnaire regarding substance abuse. The study results showed that 90% of adolescent boys had average level of knowledge, 10% of adolescent boys had good level of knowledge where as none of them had poor knowledge with mean score of 25.1 + 4.95.
